Hi People!
Hello everyone, My name is May and I have just recently founded the Society for The Raising Awareness of Saving the Sharks(STRASS). As we all know, the Shark population has been decreasing rapidly over the years and Shark finning has become an increasingly popular industry, thus leading to the depletion in the number of Sharks.
As I am a Singaporean, I am aware of the fact that Singapore is the third largest consumer of shark fin soup.It is hard to find a Chinese restaurant which does not sell the dish and even food centres sell it too! I was appalled when I found a stall selling shark fin soup right in the food centre near my home, so I thought enough was enough, so I founded STRASS. Readers out there if you want to join me in the fight for sharks, please drop a note in my email address, maycy95@yahoo.com.sg. Remember to give me your contact details!
I strongly encourage everyone to watch SharkWater, it tells us about how the sharks in the world are being wiped out and the importance of saving the sharks, you can find the trailer at the sidebar.
Did you know that sharks are not what most people think they are? Many portray them to be "man-eating monsters" but no, sharks are actually quite clever. Many species of sharks possess powerful problem-solving skills, social complexity and curiosity. The brain-mass-to-body-mass ratios of sharks are similar to those of mammals and other higher vertebrate species. Therefore, most sharks will recognise a human from a prey and will not attack unless provoked.
I think that's about all for now, I will continue to post regularly and keep you informed about the actions STRASS will be taking.
